There’s an Exception to Every Rule

A soccer fan for life, 15-year-old Josue has dreamt of attending a World Cup match. Unfortunately, DIPG, a brain tumor with no cure, continues to disrupt Josue’s life and his family’s plans.

Diagnosed last summer, Josue has completed radiation and is enrolled in a clinical trial. Both working, Josue's parents struggle to make meaningful family memories with cancer's nonstop medical demands. Jane's Fund stepped in to pay housing expenses but never anticipated a call from his social worker that Josue's Make-a-Wish trip did not go as anticipated due to intolerable side effects of treatment:

"Columbia vs Portugal playing in the World Cup in Miami at the end of June. I found tickets. Josue may be too sick in five months, but Dad will get him there if he is able. It's their dream. I know this isn't what Jane's Fund typically does. No pressure."

Jane's Fund believes there's an exception to every rule.  Living fearless and making every moment count is the only way to face a cancer diagnosis without a cure.

To Josue and his Dad, thank you for sharing your story and reminding us that miracles happen every day, especially when believing in a fighting chance.
