Unconditional Love

Today, on Miracle Monday, Jane's Fund is honored to support two remarkable families. We are paying off the funeral expenses for 16-year-old Grace and helping cover household bills for 2-year-old Rose.

As we remember August 5—the day Little Jane went to heaven after a valiant battle with brain cancer—we are reminded at Jane’s Fund that our financial support is just one of the many acts of love that enable families with a child dying of cancer to persevere during unexpected, unimaginable circumstances.

Grace refused to quit. Even during treatment for osteosarcoma (bone tumor), she stayed in school and persevered. She changed the lives of all who met her because of her kindness, wisdom, and humor—no matter her circumstances.

Rose, diagnosed with leukemia before her first birthday and about to start another round of chemotherapy to prepare for a second bone marrow transplant, has shown the world the meaning of bravery—especially her big sister who turns five this week.

Every child dying of cancer reminds us at Jane's Fund that not only is heaven a blink away for all of us, but mixed into the painful, incomprehensible suffering of each child's journey is a story of HOPE in the pain—courage, and moments of peace and joy that can only be described as glimpses of heaven on earth.

During Little Jane’s final days, we witnessed many of these special, life-giving acts of love:

BOLD COURAGE

As Jane journeyed closer to heaven, one brave friend named Bennett walked into her hospital room the day before leaving for cadet training at West Point. He simply said:

"Jane, I had to come give you a hug and say goodbye, because I know I won’t see you again until we meet in heaven.”

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
Pulling into the driveway from the hospital late one night, the car lights outlined colorful hearts taped to the windows, doors, and hanging from the trees—each with a handwritten message:

Peace. Joy. Hope.

And in the quiet, after Jane reached her hands to heaven and died, the world kept turning and grief settled in. We found a sticky note from Little Jane:

“Finish Strong”

Ultimately, heaven is the greatest miracle, but we’ve learned at Jane’s Fund that a community working together in LOVE can create infinite miracles while we’re still here—faith, joy, courage, peace, hope, a future...

Let’s all be the miracle that keeps someone going.
