Hope in the Hospital for the Holidays
At age 17, Jade was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. Last year, she lost her left leg below the knee. Despite crutches and ongoing treatment, Jade refuses to give up on school, her friendships, or her big-sister duties.
This holiday season, Jade is back in the hospital. The cancer has now spread to her lungs, and her care team believes she will likely spend the rest of her life here.
Yet Jade’s thoughts aren’t on herself. Her only wish is that her dad — a devoted single parent — can take time off work to help her younger sisters hold on to the sense of “normal” every child deserves. And from her hospital room, Jade hopes to surprise her dad and little sisters with Christmas gifts.
While the holidays may feel hard or lonely for many, Jade’s love and her ability to focus on others in the midst of the impossible remind us that gratitude and giving can be more powerful than receiving. Jade's generous heart is not only bringing her joy, but also spreading inspiration to her care team, her family, and everyone on Miracle Monday who hears her story.
