Goodbye… with Love

No parent ever prepares to bury their child, nor can they comprehend saying goodbye. Thanks to your generosity, Jane's Fund never says no to funding a child's funeral. 

Sadly, the requests come far too often, yet never without shock and sadness. This is especially true for seven-year-old Maddie's family during the holidays.   

Jane's Fund was introduced to seven-year-old Maddie four months ago when her rare and aggressive brain cancer, DIPG, progressed despite six weeks of radiation treatment. Her family and care team recognized the days of quality time with Maddie were dwindling, and they invited relatives from near and far to visit for support and goodbyes.  

Providing groceries, household essentials, and many months of rent and utilities, Jane’s Fund quietly supported Maddie as her mother and grandmother provided end-of-life care with hospice workers. 

Though the outcome was anticipated, nobody was prepared for Maddie's death. Jane's Fund was asked to cover funeral costs, and of course there is only one answer. 

Recognizing families rarely remember details of a celebration of life service or a burial of a child, Jane’s Fund knows they do remember the feeling of LOVE and HOPE showing up in the form of hugs, meals, flowers, and anonymous financial support. Love from friends and family lights the path to take the next steps forward. 

Maddie, thank you for showing your family, your care team, and all of us at Jane’s Fund what true bravery, light, and love can look like —even on the darkest of days.
