TERMINAL PEDIATRIC CANCER

Your world stops spinning when your child is diagnosed with cancer. While it feels like the rest of the world should too, parents find themselves balancing work with treatment schedules and hospital stays, financial survival with time together as a family. Jane’s Fund supports families with critical expenses such as home mortgages, car payments and other necessities to give the gift of time, hope, relief and togetherness while caring for a child with a terminal diagnosis.

  • Ginny

Beautiful and spunky Ginny was referred to home hospice with an estimated 30 days left to live. Because her parents are divorced and both remarried, she was going to have to choose between her parents’ homes to live out her final days.

Because of her determined and creative social worker’s hard work, Jane’s Fund seized the opportunity to pay for a beautiful airbnb on the lake, big enough for each family to have their own space and for Ginny’s last days to be peaceful and full of love.

Ginny marched to heaven just 10 days later, surrounded by her parents, siblings and family dogs.

She has bravely faced paralysis, emergency surgery, chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, radiation and immunotherapy as she battles the disease.

Even with all of this, the five-year survival rate for her particular cancer is a less than 50%. The family of four travels 160 miles one-way every three weeks for Taylor’s treatment and yet were considering selling a car to help with finances for her treatment.

Help Jane’s Fund pay her family's car payments. Our hope is to enable them to keep both family cars, allowing flexibility to care for Taylor during the unthinkable and maintain "normal" life as much as possible for her 8-year-old brother.

Though her prognosis is terminal, she will undergo treatment to spend as much time with her young family as possible. Their living conditions were not suitable for her condition; the mobile home had holes straight through to the ground, visible rot and mold.

With the guidance of her social worker, Jane’s Fund was able to purchase and move a brand new home to Avery’s land, providing a safe and warm place for her to live out her days and for her family to remember her always.

Her mother is a school administrator, but was unable to work due to Harper’s treatment schedule. Her father is a Pharmacist and owns two pharmacies. “Life, marriage, work, and school are messy and hard on good days, but continuing to fight the good fight while watching a child die is indescribable. Nobody in our family imagined the pain and struggle each of us would face after Jane died. Still trying to pick up the pieces and learn to live a new life, our marriage wouldn’t be intact, nor would our other three children be doing life it weren’t for God’s grace in providing friends, family, and strangers to help. Without the financial stability to pay monthly bills or bury our child, Jane’s cancer may have destroyed us.”

- Dr. Jane Harrell
