The Waiting Room

A cancer diagnosis begins with waiting—in radiology suites, oncology offices, and on hospital benches through countless sleepless nights. For four-year-old Tizzy, diagnosed with terminal metastatic kidney cancer, the hardest wait began when treatment options ran out, her body grew weaker, and even breathing requires oxygen support.

In these moments, families like Tizzy’s are often doing little more than surviving. The days blur into long, overwhelming stretches of hospital visits and quiet exhaustion. Jane’s Fund stepped in to ease part of that burden, covering months of mortgage payments so Tizzy’s parents can wait with focus on what matters most: being present for every precious moment together.

And yet, even in the heaviest seasons and longest waiting rooms, something small and unexpected can break through the weight of it all.

This week, an idea from Atrium social worker Emily—to celebrate Tizzy’s “unbirthday”—blossomed into a surprise Frozen-themed princess tea party.

Anna and Elsa, colorful decorations, face painting, singing, and laughter filled the day with joy. For a few hours, it felt as if cancer didn’t exist. And as everyone joined together to sing “Let It Go,” the words lingered long after the music ended.

Tizzy’s mother shared what the day meant to their family:

“Thank you so much for giving Tizzy this beautiful memory. She spent the whole day smiling, laughing, and just being her silly, joyful self. She didn’t even want to go to bed—she was too busy soaking in every moment.

After the month she’s had, seeing her light up like that… it brought a kind of happiness I didn’t realize I’d been holding my breath for. It felt like we finally had our Tizzy back, even if just for a night, and it filled my heart in a way I can’t fully put into words.

This meant the world to our family. Thank you—truly.”

Because of generous donors like you, Jane’s Fund can do more than ease financial strain. It can give families space to breathe, to be together—no matter what their waiting room looks like—enabling moments to celebrate life.

House mortgage payments: $23,506

A Princess Tea Party: $825
