The Tipping Point

Kayla and her sons, 14-year-old Malachi and 11-year-old Justin, were planning to celebrate the start of summer today. But instead of enjoying the break, Malachi woke up confused and unable to walk.

Just a few months ago, Malachi rang the bell to mark his second remission from a rare muscle-bone tumor. He returned to 8th grade, looking forward to finishing the school year strong. But his spring quickly turned into a medical crisis. The cancer returned for a third time, spreading to his lungs and brain. Malachi was admitted to the pediatric ICU, and he’s been fighting for his life ever since. Until now, Kayla has never missed work or needed help covering expenses. 

At Jane’s Fund, we’ve seen time and again how hope and healing grow when people reach out for help. And we’re honored to support families like Kayla’s with your help and generosity. Her letter below says it best: 

Dear Donors, 

I am writing this letter with a heart overflowing with gratitude and humility. Words cannot fully express how deeply thankful I am for the unwavering support you have extended to my family and me during one of the most challenging seasons of our lives. 

When I didn't know how we would make it through — when the weight of caring for my critically ill son seemed too heavy to bear, and the financial strain threatened to overwhelm us — you're there. Your generosity and compassion have been nothing short of a miracle. 

Because of your support, I have been able to focus entirely on being present for my children. The ability to care for my son without the daily worry of how we will afford basic needs is a gift I do not take lightly. 

I praise God for the way He has used you in our lives. Truly, you have been His hands and heart extended to us. In moments when I could not see a way forward, your help reminded me that God is always faithful and that He places people in our lives at exactly the right time.
