Brothers
As Thanksgiving approaches and we near the end of year three at Jane’s Fund, our hearts are especially grateful for brothers.
Whether by blood or by shared life experiences, Jane’s Fund wouldn’t exist without the brothers who make us laugh, speak truth in love, and embody the perfect blend of joy and courage that keeps miracles flowing.
The inspiration for Jane’s Fund came from Little Jane Harrell’s challenge to her family and friends as she fought brain cancer, “Keep going, finish strong, and go change the world.” Determined to bring love and light to children suffering in our community, both from terminal cancer or high-poverty neighborhoods, the Harrell family found early direction from their own brother, “Uncle John.” It was Uncle John who encouraged the family to support 12-year-old Amanda who was battling brain cancer. From that encouragement, Amanda's family received help paying off their home and boat mortgage so they could fight together — and from that spark, Jane’s Fund was born.
Then came Brother Bart, who introduced the Harrell family to new schools and opportunities to serve. After attending meetings at West Charlotte High and Renaissance West STEAM Academy, Bart challenged the Harrells, asking, “What are you waiting for?” When the schools needed funds for a prom, computers for graduating seniors, a science fair, or new football uniforms and regulated equipment, Jane's Fund jumped in. Thank you, Brother Bart, for helping us build some of our strongest, early school relationships.
And today, on Miracle Monday, we celebrate another brother — Bennett, Jane’s “Big Brother” — as he gets married. The night before Bennett left for West Point, he came into Jane’s hospital room and confidently said, “Jane, we will see each other again in heaven. Thank you for showing us the way.” Thanks to Brother Bennett, there’s now a soccer field at Sterling Elementary — a tribute to his love, courage, and faith.
Thank you, brothers, for making Jane’s Fund shine!
