Pedaling Towards Perfect Attendance
This school year, Jane’s Fund proudly teamed up with Berryhill School to launch an exciting attendance initiative with one simple goal: help students get to school every day and reward their hard work in a life-changing way.
Through this pilot project, students who have no more than three absences from October through the end of the school year and meet an individualized academic growth goal will earn something truly special: A brand new bicycle at the end of the school year!
This initiative is the result of a start-of-school-year "brainstorming meeting" between Jane's Fund and Berryhill School leaders to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing schools today — chronic absenteeism, a problem that disproportionately impacts lower-income communities.
At Berryhill, the school serves a geographically close-knit neighborhood, making biking a safe and realistic way for many students to get to school independently.
The vision is simple but powerful: If students have a bike, they can get themselves to school.
And it’s already working.
Since announcing the program in October, Berryhill has seen an improvement in attendance; proof that when students are given motivation, opportunity, and support, amazing things happen.
Principal Bahnson is leading the charge by riding her bike through the Berryhill hallways - and Jane's Fund is busy acquiring up to 300 bikes for the students in grades K-8.
Thanks to supporters like you, Jane’s Fund is able to show up for the children who need us the most.
Thank you for your continued support of our mission to provide encouragement and financial support to students attending under-resourced schools.
