Twist and Shout
Singing, dancing, marching, whistling, and making music are essential parts of life — igniting creativity, building confidence, and spreading joy. Sometimes, it’s impossible to recognize what’s missing until it appears—like turning on the light in a dark room.
Across Charlotte, students are finding their voices and using their talents to “twist and shout” thanks to Jane’s Fund bringing music opportunities to more Title I CMS schools.
Jane’s Fund did not fully realize the depth of the need for music programs until we invested more than $60,000 in instruments to launch and grow a band program at Renaissance West STEAM Academy for K–8th grade students over three years ago. What began as an investment in instruments quickly became an investment in students and their future.
A similar scenario has happened at West Charlotte High School after Jane's Fund invested $27,756 in marching band equipment and a drama club trip to NYC on the train ($40,500). Their marching band has become a powerful force for good — uplifting not only students, but the entire community, earning first place in North Carolina. The program has contributed to higher graduation rates, increased college scholarship opportunities, stronger lion pride-—and a lot more smiles, music, and dancing.
Students engaged in school music programs have higher attendance rates, proficiency scores, and a “sky is the limit” attitude to dream bigger for their futures.
Unfortunately, many Title I schools lack funding for extracurricular opportunities such as music, drama, art programs, clubs, and sports simply because there is no PTA support or financial ability for families to afford the “extras.” Thank you for your generosity and helping Jane's Fund fill these voids no one else is funding.
Please help Jane's Fund create more music, art, and drama opportunities.
