Building a Team
The momentum and school spirit are skyrocketing at Garinger High School under the leadership of Principal Clemmons and her team. With one full year behind her, proficiency scores are RISING, and the new relationship between the Wildcats and Jane’s Fund that began just over a year ago continues to grow deep and wide.
Coach Jupiter Wilson, also at Garinger just over a year, led his football team to their first victory in over seven years last season. Dreams and expectations for this year are at an all-time high, especially after winning their first game against Winston-Salem Prep on Thursday.
But none of this would be happening without the perseverance and courage of Garinger school leaders, coaches, and a few community heroes—including our donors like you.
This spring, Coach Wilson recognized his players would have a transportation issue this summer, and few would be able to attend summer workouts without a new van. After sharing his concern with Jane’s Fund and learning we could not purchase a vehicle through the school, we decided to do what we do best—build new relationships.
Across the street from Garinger High is Eastway Church of God, and it’s no coincidence they recently renovated a teen room and have an army of volunteers eager to drive, cook, and support students. Pastor Shope and his miracle-working assistant, Nakia welcomed Jane’s Fund, Coach Wilson, and Dr. Clemmons. A new partnership has created infinite possibility.
Jane’s Fund provided the funds so Eastway Church could purchase a van and supply drivers, and Coach Wilson woke up at 4am every day this summer so his players could work out at school as a team. The van will support all Garinger sports programs this school year, with church volunteers willing to drive students to events and tournaments that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
Jane’s Fund will never underestimate the miracles that happen when students are given opportunity and access—coupled with leaders who believe in them. Coach Wilson, Jane’s Fund is honored to be on your team and cannot wait to cheer you on this season—starting with the home opener against another Jane’s Fund partner school, the Harding University High School Rams, on Friday, August 28th at 7pm.
Thank you for being part of the Jane’s Fund team. Please spread the word because the more teammates, the stronger our team.
