Planting Seeds of Possibility
Jane’s Fund is on a mission to do two things: provide opportunity and access to students attending under-resourced schools and give hope through financial assistance to families with a child dying of cancer.
Miraculously, both happened when Jane’s Fund partnered with Davidson College Athletics and the women’s lacrosse team to bring four buses of K-5th grade students from the Greater Enrichment Program onto the campus of Davidson College.

The day started with simple joy followed by a moment they will never forget. Students ran onto the field alongside players during the opening lineup. At halftime, they returned to the field with sticks in hand, shooting and scoring goals.
In the stands, they held handmade signs and cheered loudly for the players who would become their role models by the end of the day.

The same role models also worked diligently behind the scenes the week before their game to be heroes to Kevin’s family: selling T-shirts, baked goods, and reaching out to classmates and family, they raised over $14,000 to cover Kevin’s funeral expenses.
Kevin, age seven, died of osteosarcoma (bone cancer).

After the final whistle, the experience for the students ended across campus at the Steph Curry renovated basketball court.
They boarded the bus back to Charlotte full of curiosity, a new confidence, and the satisfaction of knowing, “college can be my future.”
Meanwhile, Kevin’s family received an unexpected, generous gift, providing hope in their darkness, and giving a glimpse of joy they can now celebrate Kevin’s life the way he deserves to be celebrated.
